Prof. Aurelio Gurrea Martinez is an associate professor of law and a Lee Kong Chian Fellow at Singapore Management University Yong Pung How School of Law in Singapore, where he teaches company law, financial and securities regulation, comparative corporate governance, and international and comparative insolvency law. He is also the head of the Singapore Global Restructuring Initiative and co-chair of the SMU-Cambridge Roundtable on Corporate Insolvency Law. Prof. Gurrea Martinez previously was a visiting scholar at the Becker-Friedman Institute for Economics of the University of Chicago, a Fellow of the Harvard Law School Program on International Financial Systems and Program on Corporate Governance a visiting researcher at Columbia Law School, an advisor to the Spanish Ministry of Justice, a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany, a lecturer in comparative corporate law at the University of Los Andes, a lecturer in business law at CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, Spain, a partner in the Corpo- rate, Finance & Restructuring Department of Dictum Abogados, and an auditor with Audifaith Europe. In 2022, he also was a visiting scholar at the Becker-Friedman Institute for Economics at the University of Chicago. A 2021 ABI “40 Under 40” honoree, Prof. Gurrea Martinez is a member of the Academic Steering Committee of INSOL International, as well as a member of the European Corporate Gover- nance Institute, the American Law and Economics Association, the International Insolvency Institute’s NextGen Group and ABI. He also is the founding director of the Ibero-American Institute for Law and Finance. Prof. Gurrea Martinez has received several scholarships and awards, including the Talentia Fellowship to pursue his studies in law and finance at the University of Oxford, the Class Prize for Best Paper in Law and Economics at Stanford Law School, the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award at Sin- gapore Management University, and the Silver Medal in International Insolvency Studies given by the International Insolvency Institute. His academic work has been cited by courts and regulators from sev- eral jurisdictions, and it has been published in leading academic journals such as the European Business Organization Law Review, Journal of Corporate Law Studies, Australian Journal of Corporate Law, Oxford Journal of Financial Regulation, Chicago-Kent Law Review, Journal of Portfolio Management, University of Miami Comparative and International Law Review, Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, Oxford Journal of International Economic Law and International Insolvency Review. Prof. Gurrea Martinez received his B.B.A. and his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Granada, his Ph.D. in law from CEU San Pablo University, his M.Sc. in law and finance from the University of Oxford, and his J.S.M. from Stanford University.
