Gabe E. Sasson
Paul Hastings LLP, New York, NYGABE is a partner in the Financial Restructuring group of Paul Hastings, LLP in New York. He focuses on complex bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructuring transactions. He has extensive experience representing official committees of unsecured creditors, ad hoc groups of bondholders, secured lenders and other creditors, DIP lenders, indenture trustees, equity-holders and debtors. Additionally, he has extensive experience representing large insurance companies as creditors in chapter 11 and chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings. He spearheaded Paul Hastings’ representation of the unsecured creditors’ committee in the high-profile FTX bankruptcy, involving over $32B in liabilities. As a result of his efforts, the team achieved significant success, securing a recovery that exceeded expectations for unsecured creditors and customers, which are set to receive greater than a par recovery. He also played a pivotal role in securing Paul Hastings’ engagement by the unsecured creditors’ committee in the WeWork bankruptcy, a significant case with more than $18 billion in liabilities. He led the team in negotiating a favorable settlement that provided substantial recoveries for unsecured creditors.
A frequent speaker, Gabe recently moderated panels at ABI’s New York City Conference and the International Bar Association’s annual conference, and he is a recurring speaker for PLI’s Nuts & Bolts program. He has been named a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” since 2018, was named an “Emerging Leader” by The M&A Advisor in 2023, and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law in 2024.
Gabe’s roots trace back to a rich history of resilience and community. His grandparents fled Syria in the early 20th century and rebuilt their lives in the vibrant Jewish community of Brooklyn, instilling in him a deep-seated work ethic and passion for giving back. A summer associate position fueled his love of insolvency work, and his family’s history drives his commitment to pro bono work, which has included helping an Iraqi man who had been tortured by his government with his asylum application. At Paul Hastings, he is a respected mentor who guides young lawyers and shares his broad expertise. He is an active member of the UJA-Federation of New York’s NextGen Restructuring Committee, through which he mentors young lawyers and organizes impactful events. He also serves as the Membership Relations Director for ABI’s Emerging Industries and Technology Committee and is a member of the Federal Bar Council’s Bankruptcy Litigation Committee. In 2024, he was appointed to Brooklyn Community Board 12, allowing him to advocate for his neighborhood and community on crucial local government issues.
