JESSICA is a partner at BG Law LLP and has comprehensive insolvency and restructuring experience at both the bankruptcy court and appellate court levels. She consistently represents chapter 7 trustees and receivers, as well as debtors and creditors in chapter 11 matters. She also has significant business litigation experience, having conducted numerous trials and evidentiary hearings before the bankruptcy court. She has argued numerous appeals before both the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for Hon. Ellen Carroll and Hon. Robert N. Kwan of the Los Angeles Division of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, where she trained, managed and led more than 10 judicial externs. She also worked as a staff attorney for the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Ninth Circuit.

Jessica is an active member of the local insolvency community, presently serving as the vice co-chair of the California Lawyers Association’s (CLA) Insolvency Law Committee and as an associate editor of the Business Law News section of the California Lawyers Association. She also has co-chaired the Conference (2022), Education (2020-21) and Young Insolvency Professionals (2019) groups for the California Bankruptcy Forum (CBF). She remains active in other organizations as well, having served on the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum as a board member from 2019-23 and the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation as secretary from 2015-17. In addition, she was named a “Top Bankruptcy Lawyer” by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal (2022), has been recognized annually since 2015 as a Southern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2018. She is routinely asked to speak on panels regarding bankruptcy and insolvency-related topics.

Jessica actively participates in pro bono initiatives and volunteers her time and expertise to support individuals and organizations in need. Among other things, she co-founded her firm’s Give Back and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committees, through which she has spearheaded numerous pro bono and volunteer opportunities for all firm staff. She also is passionate about social justice issues: In 2020, she organized a donation campaign for firm employees to have an opportunity to financially respond to the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others. Through her efforts, the firm raised more than $10,000, which was donated to local nonprofits such as Homeboy Industries and the Play Equity Fund, and to national organizations such as the Equal Justice Initiative. She also actively supports numerous local charities and involves her family in volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity, the LA Food Bank and the Manna Conejo Valley Food Bank.
