Nienke Lillington

Campbells LLP, George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

NIENKE is counsel with Campbells LLP in George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, in its Litigation, Insolvency & Restructuring group, where she specializes in insolvency litigation and advice and commercial disputes. Her practice consists of high-value and multiparty disputes and litigation, and the cases she is instructed on often include cross-border and multi-jurisdictional elements. She has an extensive background in both corporate and personal insolvency matters, as well as large-scale commercial litigation. She is admitted to the Bar of England and Wales, and she is fluent in Dutch and French. Previously, she was a member of a leading set of Commercial Chancery chambers in London, where she was instructed as both sole and junior advocate in relation to a wide number of commercial and insolvency disputes.

Nienke is a member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, Chancery Bar Association, INSOL International, International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA), the International Association of Young Lawyers, 100 Women in Finance and ABI. Throughout her time at the Bars of England & Wales and the Cayman Islands, she has joined various committees and community initiatives, including one that matched high school students in a disadvantaged area of London with a barrister to provide mentorship and guidance. She also was a member of the Chancery Bar’s Equality and Diversity Committee. She has completed the INSOL GIPC Fellowship course, and has joined the Fellow (Steering) Committee of INSOL International. In addition, she is a member of the Education Committee of RISA, which organizes events to keep Cayman insolvency professionals up to date with developments in the industry. She will be taking up a role as co-chair of Communications for IWIRC Cayman Islands as of Jan. 1, 2025.

Nienke regularly publishes articles in relation to matters relevant to her practice areas. One of the more innovative publications she co-authored was published while she practiced as a barrister in London at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and concerned the Corporate Insolvency chapter of Litigation in the Time of Covid-19. The publication was continually updated as the legal landscape evolved, and her clients found the publication helpful, as there was simply no precedent for what was occurring in the (legal) market. Most recently, she has been asked by INSOL to co-author the Cayman Islands chapter for its Asset Tracing & Recovery Guide, which is in development. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, sports, singing and traveling.
