Sarah L. Fowler
Blackwell, Burke, Fowler & Rossow, P.C., Indianapolis, INSARAH is an attorney and shareholder at Blackwell, Burke, Fowler & Rossow, P.C. in Indianapolis and a chapter 7 panel trustee for the Southern District of Indiana. She works with a wide variety of clients ranging from financial institutions and asset-purchasers to business debtors, shareholders, small business owners, and chapter 7 and chapter 11 bankruptcy trustees in both state and federal courts and in out-of-court arrangements. She is licensed to practice in all courts in the State of Indiana and in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She also has extensive experience in the review and analysis of business agreements, real estate contracts and lease agreements, and she spends a significant amount of time assisting clients with issues arising from agricultural and small business operations. Early in her career, she moved from being an associate at a medium-size firm practicing exclusively in creditors’ rights and insolvency to an AmLaw 200 firm, where she represented both debtors and lenders in more complex matters, including numerous large chapter 11 cases. Shifting to a focus on regional lenders and small business debtors, she joined colleagues at smaller regional firms, where she continues to receive regular referrals as a “go to” insolvency person in Indiana.
Sarah is an active member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and chairs its Executive Committee for the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section; the Turnaround Management Association’s Indiana Chapter, for which she serves as a board member and secretary; the Indiana Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, where she serves as a volunteer; and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, where she serves on the NextGen Planning Committee for its annual conference. She was a participant in the 2019 National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Next Gen Program, selected as a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association Bar Leader Series Class VX, recognized as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights in Indiana from 2018-22 and as a Super Lawyer from 2023-25, and recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Indiana Bankruptcy/Creditors’ Rights and Insolvency & Reorganization Law from 2019-25.
Outside of the legal community, Sarah serves as a board member and secretary for Hope Academy Charter School in Indianapolis, Indiana’s only high school for students in recovery from substance use disorders. An avid runner, she also volunteers for and is a former board member of Girls on the Run of Central Indiana, a program for third-through-eighth-grade girls that uses running and other evidence-based activities to build their confidence, kindness and decision-making skills. In addition, she is a member of the Amos Butler Audubon Society and Indiana Audubon Society, and she served on the Southern District of Indiana’s Bankruptcy Court Pro Bono Panel from 2017-22.
