CAROLINA is an income member and concentrates her practice in all aspects of distressed situations and bankruptcy, representing institutional lenders, strategic investors, special situation funds, and other stakeholders in in- and out-of-court restructurings, bankruptcy and litigation matters. She is also involved in complex commercial litigation, including defense of lender liability suits and contract litigation. She regularly represents financial institutions, private-equity funds, purchasers of distressed debt, and secured and unsecured creditors. Previously, she worked for several years at a major firm in Puerto Rico, focusing her practice on insolvency and bankruptcy.Carolina is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and has been lead counsel to numerous financial institutions in Puerto Rico, such as Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, Oriental Bank and FirstBank Puerto Rico in some of Puerto Rico’s most complex bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings. She has also been lead counsel to various private equity funds, such as Capital Crossing, TPG Investments, WM Capital and others.Carolina co-chairs her firm’s representation of the Government of Puerto Rico, its agencies and public corporations as debtors-in-possession in the various pending bankruptcy filings under PROMESA. These filings are the largest in U.S. history, with over $110 billion in claims. She leads teams managing various aspects of this engagement, working in tandem with the various agencies and public corporations in Puerto Rico. She also mentors associates at her firm and provides seminars on bankruptcy law and commercial litigation.
