Whiteford Taylor Preston, LLP, Roanoke, VA

BRANDY is a partner and a member of the firm’s Business Reorganization and Bankruptcy group. She represents clients in bankruptcy cases, complex business litigation and business transactions, including the sale and purchase of businesses and/or assets. She also has experience representing lenders and borrowers in out-of-court workouts. She represented the debtor in a successful chapter 11 reorganization of a continuing care retirement community, and she secured municipal bonds and obtained a release of the moratorium on the collection of entrance fees imposed by the Virginia State Corporation Commission and the Virginia Department of Insurance. In addition, she is an adjunct professor of law at Washington & Lee University School of Law.

Brandy previously practiced with LeClairRyan and clerked for Hon. William F. Stone, Jr. of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia. She has been recognized as a Virginia Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Bankruptcy Litigation. She is a member of The Ted Dalton American Inn of Court and a member of the Young Lawyer Committee of the Roanoke Bar Association, which named her Young Lawyer of the Year in 2014.

Brandy grew up on a dairy farm in Greenbrier County, W.Va., and growing up was active in the Future Farmers of America, through which she competed in a public speaking competition. Today, she continues to give back to her community: In memory of her uncle, who passed away unexpectedly in 2009, scholarships are awarded annually to seniors graduating from the same high school as her uncle with a demonstrated financial need. Often, the scholarship is awarded to a senior that is the first in his/her family to attend college. To fund the scholarship, she organizes an annual golf tournament. In addition, she is a charter member and committee chair of the Rotary Club of the Blue Ridge, and serves on the New Generations board of directors of the Roanoke Adolescent Health Partnership.
