DARYL is a senior staff attorney for Sylvia Ford Brown, Chapter 13 Trustee for the Western District of Tennessee (Memphis). He is responsible for examining all chapter 13 cases filed as they are assigned to his case trustee, in addition to attending all legal matters as representative of the trust. Before becoming a chapter 13 staff attorney, he served as an assistant district attorney in Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys and Yazoo Counties in Mississippi. He has prosecuted and tried more than three dozen criminal cases, from malicious mischief cases to capital murder cases. Given this experience, this year he was a top five finalist for a bankruptcy judge vacancy in the Sixth Circuit. Additionally, the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) awarded him with the NCBJ Presidential Blackshear Fellowship for 2021.
Daryl serves on the board of the Bankruptcy Section of the Memphis Bar Association and has made presentations at each of its annual bankruptcy seminars. Also, he serves on the Standing Committee for the Local Rules for the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He has published articles in the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees (NACTT) quarterly magazine and in the ABI Journal, as well as in the ABI Consumer Bankruptcy Committee’s eNewsletter, through which he has written about the CARES Act.
Daryl participated in the annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition during the 2010-2011 school year, and assisted in writing his team’s brief. Outside of work, he is a board member of nonprofit organization San’s Child, Inc., an organization committed to empowering at-risk young women through outreach and educational resources to promote positive reinforcement and healthy growth and development. He also participates in speaking engagements locally to educate community members on the importance of financial wellness to bridge generational wealth gaps and inspire greater financial freedom.
