EVAN is counsel in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP’s Corporate Restructuring Group. He focuses his practice on complex corporate and financial restructurings, advising clients on all aspects of out-of-court restructurings, liability management transactions, chapter 11 reorganizations, and distressed mergers and acquisitions. His restructuring experience spans a wide variety of industries, including health care, energy, financial services, shipping and media. He also has experience representing corporate clients, private-equity sponsors and investment banks in connection with public and private mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations and equity investments, including PIPE investments in de-SPAC transactions.

Over the past six years, Evan has been elected to serve in numerous leadership roles for the Turnaround Management Association’s New York City Chapter, including as a member of the board of directors and as chair, vice chair and/or a member of programming and nominating committees. He also is a member of ABI and the New York City Bar Association, for which he serves on its Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization Committee and formerly served as secretary and treasurer of its Legal History Committee. In addition, he has written articles covering cutting-edge restructuring topics and co-authored a treatise chapter on prepackaged bankruptcies. He also recently joined the leadership of Young Catholic Renewal, a group of professionals in the corporate restructuring industry aged 40 and under who provide charitable assistance to those in need, in addition to serving as a formal and informal mentor to many associates within Skadden.

In addition to his restructuring practice and industry activity, Evan has developed a full-fledged pro bono practice primarily focused on serving nonprofit organizations. Over the past decade, he has represented dozens of nonprofit organizations in matters involving formation, corporate governance, tax-exemption advice, contractual arrangements, and mergers and acquisitions. In recognition of his distinguished pro bono service, he was named winner of a 2020 Cornerstone Award by the Lawyers Alliance for New York. He also is a member of the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance Banking Working Group, which is tasked with examining the practices of banking and financial institutions to determine how best to address elements of the industry that perpetuate racial inequity. Within the working group, he is a member of a subcommittee appointed to investigate community issues, such as unbanked and underbanked people, minority-owned business, community investing, microfinance, and mortgages and associated issues.
