Emily Wall

Cavazos Hendricks Poirot, PC, Dallas

EMILY is a shareholder with Cavazos Hendricks Poirot, P.C., where her practice includes the representation of trustees, business debtors, asset-purchasers and creditors in bankruptcy courts and bankruptcy appeals. She began her bankruptcy practice representing consumer debtors in chapter 7 and 13 cases. She committed to pursuing a bankruptcy career following her involvement competing in the ABI/St. John’s University School of Law Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition and an externship with Hon. Neil Olack during law school. She cites the experience of assisting Judge Olack in a mediation that ended with a homeowner being moved to tears, having reached a successful resolution with her mortgage lender, as her realization that the bankruptcy forum provides a superb arena for practical and fair solutions.

Emily is Special Projects Leader for ABI’s Mediation Committee, with which she first connected via ABI’s Virtual Happy Hours. She is a board member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter and a member of its NextGen and Inclusion Committees, and she is a member of the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Section’s Young Lawyers Committee and of the John C. Ford American Inn of Court. A Fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation, she previously served on the board of directors for the Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Young Bankruptcy Lawyers. In law school, she received ABI’s Medal of Excellence and was the Mississippi Bankruptcy Conference’s 2011 honoree. In addition, she was named a “Texas Rising Star” in business bankruptcy for 2019-21, and she regularly speaks on a variety of restructuring topics.

Within her firm, Emily co-chairs planning the firm’s annual retreat and organizes a weekly session for lawyers (known within the firm as “bankruptcy school”), where the lawyers study recent case law developments and a variety of bankruptcy topics that impact insolvency practice. Outside of the office, she volunteers at her church by creating and distributing a weekly newsletter for a 50-person group and leading volunteer teams for special events throughout the year.
