Sidley Austin LLP, Los Angeles

GENEVIEVE is a member of Sidley Austin LLP’s Restructuring group and focuses her practice on representing debtors and lenders in various bankruptcy matters, general assignments, receiverships, and out-of-court restructurings and workouts. She has represented clients across multiple industries, including health care, retail, hospitality and real estate. She also has advised financial and strategic purchasers on acquisitions of distressed companies and discrete assets through § 363 and foreclosure proceedings. Among her recent representations, she led a team in preparing a medical device company for a potential chapter 11 filing, and she led the bankruptcy team in a hotel-management case.

Genevieve maintains an active pro bono practice and recently secured a permanent injunction against L.A. County requiring it to process and approve emergency applications for CalFresh (formerly known as food stamps) in a timely manner. In addition, she is an at-large director of the international board for the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). She previously served for four years as co-chair of IWIRC’s Southern California Network. In law school, she was named Outstanding Law Student by the L.A. County Bar’s Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section.

Genevieve enjoys being a mentor and sounding board for many of the women in the firm’s restructuring practice, in which all current associates in the L.A. office are women. She also strives to set an example for other working moms in the firm, and never shies away from communicating her parental obligations while maintaining quality service for her clients. She was recently certified by the Emerging Leader Development Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School, an executive leadership education program sponsored by her firm. She also is a frequent speaker and panelist on hot topics in bankruptcy, most recently on the intersection of bankruptcy and arbitration at the California Bankruptcy Forum in May 2022 and the current status of third-party releases at ABI’s Southwest Bankruptcy Conference in September 2022. At the onset of the pandemic, she participated in webinars about the impacts of COVID-19 on the industry. She also has spoken on professional retention and compensation issues.
