SAM is a partner on Berger Singerman LLP’s Business Reorganization Team in Miami. He focuses on insolvency and litigation matters in bankruptcy cases, assignments for the benefit of creditors, receiverships, post-judgment proceedings and out-of-court workouts. He works with a broad range of clients representing debtors, creditors, trustees, assignees, receivers, landlords, tenants, asset-purchasers, officers, directors, and equity and other interest-holders. He serves as lead counsel to the Assignee of Crystal Cruises LLC in what is believed to be the largest assignment for the benefit of creditors proceeding in Florida’s history involving more than 12,000 proofs of claims totaling in excess of $1.4 billion. He also represents MBMG Holding, LLC (Clinical Care Medical Centers), an independent primary care and integrated physician group servicing 35,000 patients from 26 locations in Central and South Florida, in chapter 11 cases, and he represents the chapter 7 trustee of Industrial Human Capital, Inc., a failed special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), as special litigation counsel. Previously, he was an associate at two other Miami bankruptcy firms and served as a summer law clerk for the late Hon. William Hoeveler.

Sam has been listed in Chambers & Partners USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers for Bankruptcy/Restructuring as an Up & Coming lawyer for 2024 and 2025, in Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Global Bankruptcy and Restructuring Lawyers for 2025, as one of The Best Lawyers in America’s “Ones to Watch” every year since 2020, and as a Florida Super Lawyers “Rising Star” since 2017. He is president-elect of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida for 2025-26, a board director and past secretary, treasurer, first vice president and second vice president for the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida, a National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) NextGen Selectee for 2021, a member of the Uniform Law Commission’s Committee on Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors and a member of ABI’s Business Reorganization Committee.

Both of Sam’s parents emigrated from Cuba to the U.S. as children following the rise of communism on the island, leaving their lives and all of their possessions behind. His grandparents and parents built a new life from their fresh start. His personal belief about second chances and his drive to find and rescue value from a perilous financial situation inform his daily choices. Within his firm, he guides and coaches junior attorneys. Through the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida, which provides his community with financial literacy programs, pro bono legal support, and outreach efforts to other local young lawyers and professionals, he has organized community events and overseen many of the Bar’s committees.
