Douglas W. Neway, Standing Chapter 13 Trustee, Jacksonville, FLANGELA is a staff attorney for Douglas W. Neway, the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee in Jacksonville, Fla. She conducts meetings of creditors on behalf of the trustee; prepares objections to debtors’ chapter 13 plans, exemptions claims and other motions and pleadings as necessary; attends confirmation, dismissal and valuation hearings representing the interests of the trustee; supervises and trains office staff; acts as a resource to the bankruptcy bar, trustee’s office and the bankruptcy community on chapter 13 legal matters; and drafts legal documents as necessary to perform the proceeding. Prior to joining the trustee’s office in February 2022, she was an associate with the Law Offices of Jason A. Burgess, where she practiced bankruptcy law, including business restructuring, complex bankruptcy litigation and consumer bankruptcy.
Angela is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts, the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She is Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification. She currently serves as the chairperson of the Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association (JBBA) and as a Jacksonville director in the Florida Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). She also serves as chair of the Middle District of Florida Bankruptcy Steering Committee for the 2024-25 term. An NCBJ NextGen Participant for 2023, she was named a “Rising Star” by IWIRC International in 2023 and by IWIRC’s Florida Network in 2022. In addition, she was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy Law in 2021, and as a Legal Eagle – Bankruptcy Law from 2021-22 by Jacksonville’s Best Lawyers. She participated in NCBJ’s Trial Skills Workshop in 2022 and served as awards chair for the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association from 2019-22. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees, the Florida Association for Women Lawyers and the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida.
Angela grew up in a large Colombian family , where mutual support was a core value that continues to guide her. She is deeply committed to serving others and has volunteered consistently since high school, including with Habitat for Humanity, food pantries, the Nature Conservancy and pro bono efforts. As a teen, she mentored youth through a community youth group, and she continues that work through bar programs today. From 2016-22 she volunteered with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. She also launched Tables for Eight, a program connecting members of the local bar and judiciary in intimate collegial settings.
