Mr. Omar Alaniz
Baker Botts LLP, Dallas, TXOMAR is a partner in the firm’s bankruptcy group and was a core member of the firm’s ASARCO team, which the EPA called the most successful environmental bankruptcy in U.S. history. He is currently the lead debtor’s counsel in a complex chapter 11 related to a multi-million qui tam suit and recently won an oral argument before the Texas Supreme Court that resulted in a $63 million judgment.
Omar is the first attorney in his family. Raised in South Texas on the border of Mexico, he worked his way through college and law school without financial support. Through strong mentorship from members of the local bar, as well as capitalizing on networking and volunteer opportunities, he built a successful practice.
Omar’s volunteer leadership opportunities include chair of the Texas State Bar’s Bankruptcy Section, lead coach for the SMU Duberstein team, speaker at various CLE programs, and co-designer of the Starting Out Right seminar for young lawyers. He also has extensive volunteer experience in the bankruptcy community.
Education
