LUIS has broad experience litigating bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and business litigation matters. He regularly represents lenders, landlords, individuals and financial institutions in chapter 7, 13 and 11 reorganization cases, as well as involuntary and discharge proceedings. He has worked on a variety of business and general civil litigation matters, including contract disputes, real property litigation, mortgage foreclosures, landlord/tenant disputes and title insurance litigation. In addition, he has been a chapter 7 panel trustee for nearly seven years. For his work, he received the Alexander L. Paskay Professionalism Award in 2015.
Not only is Luis Board Certified in both Business Bankruptcy and Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification, he sits on the ABC’s board of directors and serves on its Standards Committee. He also serves on the District Wide Steering and Local Rules Lawyers’ Advisory Committees, and has been a member of the Judicial Liaison Committee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.
As a student attorney, Luis helped coal miners suffering from black lung disease prosecute claims under the Federal Black Lung Benefits Act. He serves as president of the Bankruptcy Law Educational Series Foundation and is a director of the Middle District of Florida Pro Se Bankruptcy Legal Assistance Clinic. In addition, he is a member of Washington and Lee University’s Alumni Admissions Program Committee and an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
