Moore & Van Allen PLLC , Charlotte, NC

“Luis’s meticulous, yet compassionate and credible, communication skills and style distinguish Luis across all demographics as a counselor, negotiator, and litigator.”

LUIS is a member of the Financial Restructuring team at Moore & Van Allen PLLC, where his multidisciplinary practice encompasses a wide range of financial services matters with a focus on the resolution of troubled credits. He has extensive experience representing key stakeholders in connection with all aspects of financial restructuring matters in myriad industries, including agriculture, commercial real estate, energy, health care, manufacturing, retail, technology and transportation. He serves as the general counsel and secretary for the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance (formerly the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce), which is focused on the promotion and advancement of the 15-county Charlotte region. In that role, he is the primary source of legal advice for the enterprise and regularly advises on matters related to corporate governance, compliance, commercial transactions, human resources and risk-management.

Luis has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America (2021) in the category of Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights/Insolvency & Reorganization Law and also in the category of Commercial Litigation, by Business North Carolina among its Legal Elite “Young Guns” in 2021, by the Charlotte Business Journal in 2018 as a 40 Under 40 honoree for his professional accomplishments and his positive impact in the Charlotte community, by the Turnaround Management Association as a 2015 recipient of the Turnaround of the Year: Small Company award for his work as legal counsel to the receiver in the Bost Distributing Co. matter, and since 2014 as a Rising Star in business bankruptcy by North Carolina Super Lawyers.

The son of Puerto Rican parents, Luis’s first language was, and he is fluent in, Spanish. He is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and Attorney Development Committee, and for six years he chaired or co-chaired the firm’s Lawyers of Color affinity group, the primary goal of which is to recruit and retain attorneys with diverse backgrounds. During his tenure in this leadership position, his efforts to foster meaningful programming and mentoring — coupled with the strong support from management and the firm’s Diversity Committee — helped the firm more than double its pool of diverse attorneys. In addition, during this time he also served as one of the firm’s hiring partners. Although he has recently transitioned out of the Lawyers of Color leadership role, he remains active in the firm’s mentoring, training, development and recruiting programs as a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and Attorney Development Committee. Outside of work, he is an avid slow-pitch softball player and considers himself an above-average first baseman.
