ELI is a partner in the firm’s Restructuring Group and represents creditors, debtors, agent banks, hedge funds, lenders, bondholders and other strategic parties in a range of corporate restructurings, financing transactions, bankruptcy litigation, asset sales and acquisitions, and advisory matters relating to investments in complex distressed businesses. He also advises numerous financial institutions, including all eight of the U.S.’s global systemically important banking groups (G-SIBs) and trade groups in connection with Dodd-Frank Resolution Planning.Eli is a member and former secretary of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization and a member of ABI’s Secured Credit Committee. He has contributed articles to the ABI Journal and The Banking Law Journal and has spoken on health care restructurings.As assignments partner in the firm’s restructuring group, Eli oversees training programs for new lawyers as well as associate-development initiatives, and he considers the training and mentorship of younger lawyers as among the most important things he does for the firm. He also devotes substantial time to recruiting bright new lawyers into the field, and in that role he has expanded the firm’s relationship with Northwestern Law. Outside the firm, he has worked on the New York City Bar’s efforts related to venue-reform legislation. In addition, his pro bono work has included efforts to obtain restitution for homeowners defrauded by mortgage-modification scams, and he has worked with a nonprofit supporting 9/11 first responders to help protect their health benefits from seizure by creditors.
Eli never shoots from the hip, is the first to admit that he needs more time to go through issues, follows up on issues and asks great questions as to business objectives. He is able to distill complicated and often nebulous issues into understandable and actionable information.
