Ms. Julie Curley

Kirby Aisner & Curley LLP, White Plains, NY

JULIE is a partner and represents debtors in areas of corporate and consumer bankruptcy, as well as foreclosure and mortgage defense, mortgage loan modification and real estate. She works with small and middle-market companies and their stakeholders, and has 15 years of experience in corporate turnarounds, strategic consulting, financial and operational restructurings, and debtor bankruptcy situations. She has led numerous § 363 sales processes in chapter 11 cases, as well as business and asset sales.

Julie opened her law firm this year and fills it with mementos of her father, who was born on a farm in Croatia and immigrated to the U.S. with little money or knowledge of English. It was he who had always encouraged her to open her own firm. Prior to opening her firm, she had practiced insolvency law at two other firms. When the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA) passed into law, she began making flowcharts and checklists of what had changed and what she needed to do differently in her practice. As she set herself apart from other associates, she quickly became the “go to” person on consumer filings.

Recently, Julie has become involved in local politics with aspirations to bring a sense of solidarity and unity to the county in which she resides. She has chaired the Bankruptcy Committee for the Westchester County Bar Association for nearly five years, organizing its Annual Judge’s Roundtable and various CLE programs. She has also volunteered for several years as a moot court coach at Pace University School of Law. When the recession hit in 2008, she created a chapter 7 clinic for Legal Services of the Hudson Valley that is used in all of their offices to assist pro se filers. She also supports the CARE (Credit Abuse Resistance Education) program and would like to see financial education be part of each high school’s standard curriculum.
