Ms. Tara Schellhorn

Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti, LLP, Morristown, NJ

TARA practices in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Group, where she represents debtors, creditors’ committees, trustees, financial institutions, secured lenders, unsecured creditors and other parties in interest in complex chapter 11 cases. She also has experience in bankruptcy litigation, including prosecuting and defending nondischargeability, preference and other avoidance actions. In addition, she has experience representing clients in complex corporate-lending issues, including the representation of indenture trustees in default and bankruptcy situations.

Tara currently co-chairs the New Jersey Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and is vice director of Fall Programs for the IWIRC International Board. She also serves as the Education Director of ABI’s Young & New Members Committee, and she regularly writes and speaks on bankruptcy and insolvency topics. In addition, she was selected as the first attorney from New Jersey to participate in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) Next Generation Program, and she has been listed as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” since 2011. She also co-chairs the Morris County Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Committee and is a member of the board of advisors of Widener University Commonwealth Law School. Prior to joining Riker Danzig, she clerked for Hon. Raymond T. Lyons of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Growing up, Tara watched her father, a mechanic, work tirelessly. This instilled in her a work ethic to always finish a job on time, regardless of the circumstance, which has helped her build a reputation as a reliable attorney. While in law school, she received ABI’s Medal of Excellence for outstanding bankruptcy coursework. She also presented during Widener Commonwealth’s Professional Development Day about building a professional network.
